Colin Gilliam, son of Hitomi - who does all of the photography and graphic design for design358, including the book NEOTROPICA; has just launched his website WWW.COLINGILLIAM.COM. There you will find some new a creative work using images of flowers in wonderful photography as well as a creative new form of art. He sells prints of all of his work, so please make sure to check it out!

AIFD National Symposium, the gathering of all the leaders in the floral industry… what a perfect way to unveil Design358’s new guide - NEOTROPICA. Neotropica is a pocket sized guide that is extremely easy to use, and is essential for anyone who deals with or designs with tropical flowers. The guide was introduced this past week at AIFD National Symposium in Kansas City, MO to an overwhelmingly positive response. AIFD Symposium in KC a SUCCESS!!

Waiting at the airport in Kansas City to board my flight back home to Vancouver, Canada… I must say that Kansas City this year was a definite success for Design358! We were so pleased to unveil NEOTROPICA here in KC and got an overwhelmingly positive response!! Thank you to Eric Tanouye of Greenpoint Nurseries, his brother Alan, Debbie, Tony, and Amanda Alvarez for all their help with the book this week!Apart from the Neotropica Launch, Design358 had a strong showing in KC… Design358 Designer, Kevin Ylvisaker had one of the highlight programs of the week, and Design358 Designers Tony Alvarez, Brooke Raulerson, and Yukari Mitsui all were inducted here in KC as well!! Everyone was sad not to see Hitomi here, and I will make sure to give her all your ‘hello’s’ that I got while I was here the last few days.. she will be there for sure in Boston! Fall Semester announced for September!

The Design358 Center for Professional Floral Education returns this fall after a highly successful Spring 2009 semester. The school will open the fall semester with its introductory PreFlo course September 2nd through the 4th. The 3-week intensive ProFlo course will follow, running fro September 9th until the 29th. We are currently finalizing our course catalogs for the fall, but in the meantime you can still download our course catalog from the previous semester. Course outlines will remain very much the same, with only the date changing to the above ones. We are officially open now! The Design358 Center for Professional Floral Education officially opened this morning at Signature Floral Supply/ Kirby’s Floral in Burnaby, BC. As we close in on the grand opening of the Design358 Center for Professional Floral Education, everyone involved with the school is feeling the excitement! We have been at Signature Floral Supply/ Kirby’s Floral the entire week prepping and setting up the classroom for our students next week! TSE 2009, San Diego!

Design358 was in sunny San Diego this past week for The Special Event 2009, the event world’s biggest annual convention. We were on hand to design two booths for two separate companies, as well as speak at one of the convention’s stage programs. Hitomi Gilliam, Creative Director for Design358, was hired to design the booth for one of the industry’s top glassware and floral accessories distributors, Accent Decor. Hitomi also gave a wonderful stage program on behalf of Accent Decor, which received a wonderful response. Design358 was also hired to provide the design and decor for the booth of International Floral Distributors, a network of floral wholesale houses accross the country. Team members Debbie and Tony Alvarez and Scott Hasty were brought in for the week and did a superb job! It was a pleasure working with Margaret and Frank Hoffland of Accent Decor, as well as Jeff Lanman of IFD, thank you for a wonderful week guys! Pictures of the event will be posted in our gallery soon, and below is a shot of the team on hand at TSE 2009!
